Australia’s toughest rail trail cycling event.
Cycle the entire length of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail from Wulkuraka Station in Ipswich to Yarraman (including the Toogoolawah to Moore by-pass route) within 12-hours.
Total distance of 167 km with a net height gain of 375 metres on a fairly rough track.
We’re aiming to establish two new records:
1) The fastest time to complete the entire Brisbane Valley Rail Trail from End-to-End
2) The largest number of people to cycle the entire Brisbane Valley Rail Trail in a single day.
A prize of a luxury week-end for two value $600 at the Wiikirri B & B Retreat in Blackbutt with great access to forestry trails suitable for mountain biking will be awarded to the man and woman to set the record for the fastest time for each gender.
A beautiful certificate of achievement designed by our graphic designer will be awarded to everyone who completes the course.
A great cycling shirt and T-shirt to commemorate the event will be available to order from Jakazni.
Transport by coach and truck for people and bikes back to Wulkuraka Station will be provided after the event.
Support will be minimal apart from a safety team shadowing the event on nearby roads to give assistance if required and water stations at strategic points. There will also be check-points at the water stations.
The event will start in the dark at 6.00 a.m. and will finish in the dark for anyone who hasn’t completed the course by 5.00 p.m.
Mobile phone, adequate water, off road lights, a basic first aid kit including snake bite bandage, a puncture repair kit and basic tools, and a light-weight, warm jacket will be mandatory equipment. Participants can either carry food or obtain food at shops and cafes along the way.
A free pie from the famous Blackbutt Bakery will be waiting for you in Blackbutt after the long climb up from Linville.
This is an event for experienced and fit cyclists only. It is unsuitable for anyone who has not had recent experience of riding 160+ km off-road in a single day.
Except in an emergency, there will be no transport back to Wulkuraka until we reach Yarraman.
Bicycles must be suitable for riding off-road – mountain bikes are recommended.
After arrival at Yarraman Station, we will direct participants to to the nearby Royal Hotel pub in Yarraman to refuel and to await transport back to Wulkuraka Station that will depart at around 7.00 p.m. (earlier is everyone is ready).
We will also give out the awards in the pub.
As usual, you ride with us at your own risk.
