We’re looking forward to welcoming you on Saturday 2 August for the BVRT Festival of Cycling 2025.
The BoM weather forecast for Saturday 2 August is looking fair, if a bit windy:
Summary Min 5 Max 18 Shower or two. Possible rainfall: 0 to 2 mm Chance of any rain: 50%
Partly cloudy. Medium chance of showers. Light winds becoming westerly 15 to 25 km/h during the morning then becoming light during the evening.
Event cutoff time:
If you fail to arrive in Blackbutt by 3.30 pm, for your safety and our peace of mind, you will be stopped and transport to Yarraman will be provided as you will not have enough time to ride to Yarraman before nightfall, especially with a headwind..
BVRT Code of Conduct:
All participants are required to comply with the BVRT Code of Conduct. Keep left and give way to walkers, runners and horses.
Bicycle Preparation:
Bicycles must be in good condition and fit for off-road cycling. If you have any doubts about the suitability of your bicycle, please seek advice from your local bicycle shop. If your bike needs a service, the day before the ride is not the time to organise it.
Fitness:
A reasonable level of fitness is essential for this ride. Hopefully, you have been doing some training for the distance you have chosen. If you have a medical condition, you must have a doctor’s approval to participate in this event.
Wildlife and farm animals:
Be on the lookout for any wildlife, especially snakes and wallabies. Most snakes will move away when they see or hear you. Wallabies can cross in front of you unexpectedly. Magpies are starting to prepare for nesting. We recommend bird scarer tape attached to your helmet to deter magpie strikes. There are also a variety of farm animals on the trail. When approaching cattle, slow right down, call out to them gently, and make sure you give the cattle room to get away from you.
Safety First:
In an emergency, call 000 then call race directors.
Participants are responsible for their own safety and should always be mindful the BVRT is still an adventure trail with potential hazards such as variable surface conditions, trail furniture such as bollards and grids, fallen vegetation, landslips, unpredictability of other trail users, and your own lack of attention.
Whilst the rail trail is traffic free apart from occasional rogue motorbike riders, there are a number of road and highways crossings. It is your responsibility to cross the roads safely, paying due care and attention to traffic, especially when crossing State highways with a 100 kph speed limit.
If there are any incidents requiring us to evacuate you from the BVRT, such as bushfires, we will deploy volunteers to the nearest access points to direct you.
Feed stations:
There will be feed stations at Toogoolawah, Moore and Blackbutt (right at the stations) where will be water, fruit, some snacks and a coffee vendor (except at Blackbutt). There will be an unsupervised water station in the shade shelter at Coominya.
On arrival in Blackbutt, be sure to collect your free snack pack with some delicious healthy treats, sponsored by The Esk Fruit Shop, as your reward for climbing the range.
See the interactive map of the BVRT to view other public water points.
What to bring:
Please bring adequate drinking water, a rain proof, a warm jacket, a basic toolkit, including a puncture repair kit and a spare inner tube unless using tubeless tyres.

Please note, we will have a support vehicle supporting this event. If you need to be picked up, please call Shayne on 0405 411 010.
