Brisbane Valley Rail Trail 90/100 km cycling challenge 2018

Gravel race on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail from Esk to Yarraman including the Detour route from Toogoolawah to Moore within 8 hours.

Total distance 100 km with a net height gain of 375 metres on a fairly rough track.

A prize of a luxury week-end for two value $600 at the Wiikirri B & B Retreat in Blackbutt with great access to forestry trails suitable for mountain biking will be awarded to the man and woman to complete the course in the fastest time for each gender.

TBA additional prizes for 2nd and 3rd and awards for 4th and 5th. Prizes for the oldest and youngest to complete the course, for the fastest time under 25, and a rider nominee award for best sportspersonship.

This event is suitable for reasonably fit and experienced cyclists only. You need to be confident you can cycle 90 to 100 km off-road in under 8 hours.

Participants are expected to be self-sufficient, but there will a safety team shadowing the event to give assistance if required. Free water will be available at 3 locations and free snacks will be available at 2 locations on the route. There will be mandatory check-points at Moore, and Blackbutt where support crews can offer assistance, but they may not offer assistance between the checkpoints unless you are abandoning.

The event will start at 6.00 a.m. and will finish at 2.00 p.m.

Mobile phone, adequate water, a basic first aid kit including snake bite bandage, spare inner tube, a puncture repair kit and basic tools will be mandatory equipment. Participants can either carry food or obtain food at shops and cafes along the way.

Bicycles must be suitable for riding off-road – mountain bikes and cyclocross bikes are recommended.

There will be an optional hourly shuttle bus back to Esk from 11.00 am provided byJosie and David from Out There Cycling @ $25. Depending on numbers, we may also lay on a coach and semi-trailer. Please select the option to pre-pay whilst registering for this event - the option to add it is at the bottom of the check-out page.


If you're not sure if you need the shuttle bus, you can book them separately later.

For anyone wanting to make a week-end of it, there is excellent accommodation available in Esk and Yarraman.

As usual, you ride with us at your own risk.

Please note, if a severe weather event is predicted for 30 June or the opening of the new section is delayed due to extreme weather or other eventuality, the BVRT 100 will be postponed and all participants given a full refund. A bit of rain is all part of the adventure. Thunder and lightning whilst out in the open countryside is just too dangerous.
